I am a third year student at the University of California, Berkeley. I am a Molecular and Cell Biology major. I am from Saratoga, CA and this is my first semester as a transfer student at UC Berkeley. I currently conduct neuroscience research at the Stanford School of Medicine exploring the use of neurofeedback as a therapeutic intervention for autism. I aspire to become a physician. I am an avid runner and outdoor enthusiast. I love Cal because of the opportunities I have, such as taking this Muslims in America course, because it gives me a diverse perspective on interesting topics. I enjoyed this course and the process of creating this website because it has allowed me to explore areas and subjects I normally do not focus on. Over the course of this semester, I have immensely expanded my knowledge about Islam and feel that I have gained a more well-rounded view of Muslims in America. I built the Islamic Art Exhibit page and co-built the Ceramics page with Maryam. I hope you enjoy the website as much as I do!

I am a third year student currently majoring in Political Science. Although this is my first semester as a transfer student I feel that Cal has offered me so much knowledge already, especially being apart of this great project. Being a military veteran, I have had the opportunity to travel the world, and projects like these enriches my mind about different cultures. In this project I worked on the home page and the music page. I have the found that Muslim music has influenced a great deal of genres such as "hip hop," and "country," to name a few. A little background about my self; I am from Pittsburg California, located in the east bay, where I live with my family. I have a beautiful wife whom we both share a funny little boy and this beautiful girl you see in my picture. My long term goal is to become a lawyer.

I am a fourth year student majoring in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of California Berkeley. I came to the United States in 2005 from Iran. I always wanted to live in the USA, and I am happy that I do now. However, the lack of information about Muslims and in general Islam among general public in the USA has been always bothering me. As a Muslim, I believe miss-judgment of Islam and Muslims comes from lack of factual information . Therefore I took the opportunity of making this website to my heart and with my friends decided to show a small part of Islam through art. We tried to give some background information and show what Muslims have achieved through out history, and what they have brought with them to the USA, their new home. I have created the Architecture page and also worked on the Ceramic Page with Anjali. I hope you enjoy our website.

I am a junior transfer pursing a degree in Integrative Biology with an emphasis in Human Biology and also a minor in Art, Practice of at the University of California, Berkeley. I plan to continue my education by attending medical school and becoming a physician. I have been blessed with the opportunity to grow up in the diversity of the bay area as an Iranian American Muslim. When I am not hiding in Main Stacks I spend my time teaching art and health education, volunteering, and going on runs with my two older sisters. I also enjoy making art that incorporates elements from both biology and Islam. In the image on the right, I created the two paintings at the top. Recently I also began exploring traditional calligraphy with the use of a qalam and ink. I was interested in exploring the topic of Islamic art for our project because I believe studying art allows us to learn about the different cultures, practices, and beliefs. For this website, I created the Calligraphy page and also worked with Nicholas to design the Home page.
